Camunda has announced the end of its Camunda Platform 7 product. Extended support for enterprise customers will end in April 2030, after which there will be no further development, bug fixes or security patches. Switching to the new Camunda 8 platform is not just a simple update. Camunda 8 is a fundamentally new development that requires a migration of the existing process applications. For Camunda 7 customers, this means that they should evaluate at an early stage what a migration means for them or what possible alternatives are.

Frequently asked questions about migrating from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8
Which companies should migrate to Camunda 8?
The question of migrating from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8 affects all companies using Camunda 7, as the extended support for Camunda 7 ends in April 2030.
When does support for Camunda 7 end?
The last LTS version 7.24 will be released in October 2025, and full support for Enterprise customers for this version will end in April 2027. Extended support for Enterprise customers of Camunda 7 will then end in April 2030. Version 7.24 will also be the last minor version, which means that the Camunda 7 Community Edition will no longer receive updates from October 2025.
What happens when support for Camunda 7 ends?
Camunda 7 will then no longer receive any bug fixes or security patches. New, larger feature updates are already being implemented as a priority and exclusively for Camunda 8.
Can I migrate everything 1:1 to Camunda 8?
No. Camunda 8 relies on fundamentally different concepts in many aspects. For example, every process step is always asynchronous; close, transactional coupling is no longer possible. In addition, task workers are now always remote and can no longer be accessed via bean injection. Depending on the deployment scenario, major adaptations to the process applications may be necessary, which is why companies should address this at an early stage.
Is my Camunda 7 license also valid for Camunda 8?
Newer licenses are usually valid for both Camunda 7 and Camunda 8. In any case, please contact your Camunda Customer Success Manager for more information.
Can I simply switch to the Camunda 7 Community Edition?
Camunda 7 CE is not an alternative, as it has also been discontinued. Version 7.24 in October 2025 will be the last CE release. The CE will no longer receive any bug fixes or security patches.
What are the advantages of Camunda 8?
Camunda 8 has been developed from scratch and is based on a modern, cloud-native architecture. As a result, Camunda 8 better supports processes with a large number of process instances and is more horizontally scalable. Due to the deployment scenario as a central remote engine, Camunda is positioned as an orchestrator in distributed micro-service landscapes. Camunda 8 supports out-of-the-box connectors for various systems and offers the option of adding your own connectors, thus opening the door to low-code approaches.
